Of the several hundred research and science parks in the country, Research Triangle Park is the oldest continuously operating one, ranked among the largest and successfully-growing parks globally. RTP is home to a broad array of companies, from Fortune 100 multinational research and development operations, to university spin-outs and start-up operations. A number of federal agencies also have a presence in the Park.
In 2013, Google named Cary the eCity for North Carolina
. This title was based on Cary’s use of the Internet to interact with customers and clients and to boost the economy. The Town’s growth of innovation and e-commerce were strong factors in the decision, along with almost 100 percent of Cary’s population having access to the Internet. Cary’s proximity to Research Triangle Park was an additional factor.
