Legislation passed in 2014 restructured North Carolina's previously multi-bracketed system, with a top rate of 7.75 percent, to the current single-bracket system.  North Carolina will collect a flat personal income tax of 5.75 percent for 2015 and subsequent tax years.  The restructuring of the state tax system bumped North Carolina from 44th all the way to 16th in the nation in the State Business Tax Climate Index.  The North Carolina corporate income tax rate also fell from 6.9 percent in 2014 to 5 percent in 2015.
