What is Maker Faire? Maker Faire is a gathering of fascinating, curious people who enjoy learning and who love sharing what they can do. From engineers to artists to scientists to crafters, Maker Faire is a venue for these "makers" to show hobbies, experiments, projects. We call it the Greatest Show (& Tell) on Earth - a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity, and resourcefulness. Glimpse the future and get inspired! CALLING ALL MAKERS! Wake Tech will be hosting the Raleigh Mini Maker Faire an event to showcase the amazing work of all kinds and ages of makers — anyone who is embracing the do-it-yourself (or do-it-together) spirit and wants to share their accomplishments with an appreciative audience. Application Schedule: Open through August 31, 2017 at 5:00 PM EST Applicants will be notified by September 8, 2017. Late Entries: Applications received after the deadline will be reviewed based on available space. Entry Information: The first step to participating is to submit an entry that tells us about yourself and your project. Entries can be submitted from individuals; groups such as hobbyist clubs and schools; commercial makers or crafters; indie makers or crafters, startups; and companies. To apply, follow the link above then choose what best fits your proposal: Maker Booth or Exhibit, Commercial Maker Booth (primarily sales booth), Craft Vendor, Workshop or Presentation, Performer, or Exhibiting Sponsor. We particularly encourage exhibits that are interactive and that highlight the process of making things. Note there is no fee to participate in the Maker Faire if you are not selling or promoting a product. If you are a “commercial maker” (company) and want to sell or promote a product the booth fees are $100, “Startup” booth fees are $50, and “indie craft maker” booth fees are $25. Types of Project Proposals Maker Booth or Exhibit: Individuals, groups, schools and organizations that would like to demonstrate what they make and/or how it works in an all-day exhibit space; interactive exhibits are encourages. For maker groups, please have one point person to coordinate your efforts. Wake Tech provides Makers that are participating purely by sharing their project and inspiring others to make with exhibit space, tables, chairs, power, entry passes, etc., at no cost to the Maker. Commercial Maker Booth or Exhibit: Makers with commercial interests or marketing intentions are asked to pay an exhibit fee. Commercial Interests is any entity producing, marketing, re-selling, or distributing goods or service. Indie Craft Maker Booth or Exhibit: an indie crafter is an independent artist or maker and includes those DIY’s with handmade businesses whose primary intent is to sell your products at the Maker Event and are asked to pay an exhibit fee. Workshop or Presentation: Individuals and groups who would like to talk about an idea or projects of interest to the Maker Community, OR makers who are interested in demonstrating what they make and how it works. Presentations are typically 10 -20 minutes long with some time for Q & A. Workshops are for individuals or groups that would like to lead makers and community members in an interactive activity resulting in a completed project. Workshops are typically 45 minutes long. The event will include music, food, and activities for kids. Wake Technical Community College Southern Wake Campus 9101 Fayetteville Road Raleigh, North Carolina 27603 Traffic for the event will enter the Southern Wake Campus at two different locations. You may enter through the entrance on Tech Road or Wake Tech Way. You will be able to exit through Old McCullers Road, Tech Road or Wake Tech Way. Available event parking lots can be identified with the alphabet lettering and consist of the following: A, B, C, D, E, F, I, L, O, P, S, and T.
